Intuit TurboTax — Reset Suite

Five seats, two depth cameras, and a storefront where the light changes all day. Detecting a person was never the hard part. Not detecting the ones walking past was.

The instrument

Reset Suite is an addressable-LED dome that anchors the meditative zone at Intuit's TurboTax SoHo flagship. The flagship was designed as a calm answer to tax season, and the dome is its quietest corner, where light and sound build around whoever sits down. It behaves as a slow sequencer: each person who sits adds a voice, each departure dissolves a layer, and the seated visitors form one composition. Sitting down sounds a singing bowl from an overhead directional speaker and sends a ripple of light across the dome toward that seat; an ambient layer holds while the visitor stays, and fades when they leave.

Seeing the room

Two OAK-D cameras run depth inference on-device across five seating zones; depth, because the storefront light never holds still. Zone masks are cut to each seat's geometry, so the classifier answers is someone sitting here instead of is something there.

The remaining noise is human, not optical: people hover, half-sit, change seats. Each zone runs its own state machine.

Watching it run

A Prometheus exporter streams zone occupancy, dwell time, frame rate, service health and GPU/CPU memory into a Grafana dashboard, so drift and hardware faults surface before a visitor sees them.
